Gaps

Difficulty: Beginner

Trick Type: Gaps

Fly through a small and enclosed gap.

Small (6 inches) – 150 points

Medium (12 inches) – 125 points

Large (18 inches) – 100 points

Tutorial

Approach and Align: As you approach the gap, make sure your drone is lined up with the center of the opening. Using a crosshair can help initially, but it won’t be as effective when hitting gaps while making sharp turns or flying at a speed different from your optimal cruising speed. If you’re flying slower than your cruising speed, the crosshair will point above the target gap. If you’re flying faster, the crosshair will point below the target.

Control Speed: For newer pilots, slowing down slightly can help with precision and give you more time to line up and adjust. However, maintaining your speed and using throttle adjustments for elevation is generally better.

Maintain Altitude: Ensure you have the right elevation to pass through the gap smoothly. Use gradual throttle adjustments to keep your altitude steady, avoiding dips or climbs that could cause you to miss the gap.

Pass Through: Once aligned and at the right speed, keep a smooth and steady flight path as you pass through the gap. Focus on a point beyond the gap to help guide you straight through.

Practice: Start with larger gaps and gradually work your way to smaller ones. This will build your confidence and precision, making it easier to navigate tight spaces over time.
